This is the internet home of Jim FitzGerald, his paintings, art and drawings.
There is a gallery, a blog and a link to a shopping page. I hope you enjoy looking around!
Art is one of the oldest forms of communicating.
We connect with an art work because it spoke to us. Artists since the beginning of civilization, have had that urge to explain themselves and the world around them. So the best of Art, no matter where it comes from, crosses all boundaries, and reaches us as an individual.
I use Oils, Acrylics and Watercolors.
I'm a self-taught artist. I have referred to many books, and now lessons on the internet. Those can be a big help.
Being no master, I just sit down with a paper or canvas and hope for some inspiration and luck.
I am inclined to dabble in all three mediums, as each has its own tricks and rewards.
The styles of art I enjoy the most are Surrealism and Impressionism
Salvador Dali and his combination of technical skills and dreams imagery made me see how Art could make you think. Vincent Van Gogh's ability to make us feel through his use of colors and lines always talked to me.
Probably nothing is more humbling in a discipline than to see the work of master craftsman. As Lao Tzu said, "If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will hurt your hand."
Daily Life
For many years I worked in Information Technology and sofware consulting, specializing in programming, databases and Business Intelligence. I think now how simliar writing a computer program is to creating a painting. Inside a blank canvas we impose a structure and strive to make small parts fit together into a functiong composed whole. Painting is a solitary pursuit, and it is engrossing. It requires thought and discipline.
